چکیده

This paper uses 3D numerical analyses to investigate the stress path experienced by soil elements around large diameter piles in sand subjected monotonic drained lateral loading. Inspection of loading-induced stresses revealed multiaxial nature these paths, which are characterised rotation one or more principal axes. Based on outcome finite element analyses, typical paths for different extracted. Such then evaluated against those enabled conventional and advanced laboratory testing. It is found that a combination tests Hollow Cylinder Torsional Apparatus (HCTA) can reproduce most features numerically identified pile. Unavoidable limitations testing discussed as well major challenge replicating loading direction with respect material Some guidance experimental implementation HCTA provided discussion use equipment, such triaxial simple shear apparatus.

Laterally loaded rigid piles in cohesionless soil

In this paper, limiting force profile for laterally loaded rigid piles in sand and is differentiated from the on-pile force profile, from which elastic-plastic solutions are established and presented in explicity expressioins. Nonlinear responses of the piles are characterized by slip depths mobilized from mudline and the pile-tip. At the states of tip-yield and rotation point yield, expression...

Development of p-y Curves of Laterally Loaded Piles in Cohesionless Soil

The research on damages of structures that are supported by deep foundations has been quite intensive in the past decade. Kinematic interaction in soil-pile interaction is evaluated based on the p-y curve approach. Existing p-y curves have considered the effects of relative density on soil-pile interaction in sandy soil. The roughness influence of the surface wall pile on p-y curves has not bee...

Analysis of Laterally Loaded Long or Intermediate Drilled Shafts of Small or Large Diameter in Layered Soil

Strain wedge (SW) model formulation has been used, in previous work, to evaluate the response of a single pile or a group of piles (including its pile cap) in layered soils to lateral loading. The SW model approach provides appropriate prediction for the behavior of an isolated pile and pile group under lateral static loading in layered soil (sand and/or clay). The SW model analysis covers the ...

Numerical Simulation of Soil Evaporation with Sand Mulching and Inclusion

A model of unsaturated soil-water movement using a prediction model of basic physical soil properties for calculating correlation functions was developed using VADOSE/W. The reliability of the model was assessed by comparing the results with those of a soil-column test. Coefficients of determination, R2, between the simulated and the measured daily evaporation for sand-mulch thicknesses of 0 (c...

Pushover Analysis of Piles in Stratified Soil

Pile foundations have been the subject of interest for earthquake engineers since last several decades. The devastations caused in major earthquakes of the world can be the reason enough to carry out the research on the topic of seismic behavior of piles. One definite concern is liquefaction induced ground movement after the shaking in an earthquake, causing extra lateral loads acting on piles....
